The red snapper (Lutjanus argentimaculatus) locally known as maya-maya and two species of seahorses (Hippocampus kuda and H. barbouri) are the latest additions to the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center Aquaculture Department's (SEAFDEC AQD) growing list of fish and shellfish whose life cycle has been completed in captivity. A breeding program for the red snapper began in 1993 with the acquisition of wild stocks and rearing them in tanks. A year later, these stocks were hormonally manipulated to spawn in 1999.
