The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Western Visayas has granted authority to local government units (LGUs) in the province to run after fishermen who continue to poach on protected waters. But before giving the LGUs the go-signal to start apprehending fishermen who hunt fish inside prohibited provincial fishing grounds, their personnel dispatched to become BFAR deputies will be required to undergo training on how to spot and apprehend illegal fishers. Once they pass the training, they will be issued with certificates of proficiency, said Regional Director Drusila Bayate.en
