Senators Juan Miguel Zubiri and Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel on Thursday sought a law banning the use of single-use plastic amid reports that the Philippines is the third worst plastic polluter of oceans. Sen. Cynthia Villar, chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment, recently said that the Philippines ranked third next to China and Indonesia in terms of estimated volume of mismanaged plastic wastes that could end up in seas and oceans.
