Fish landing center in Cagayan town to benefit small fishermen
Excerpt
To provide better post-harvest handling, processing and marketing of fish and marine products, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has inaugurated the Community Fish Landing Center (CFLC) in this pilgrimage town of Cagayan province. The project, which will enable fisherfolk to derive just income from their catch, is a joint project of BFAR-Region 2 (Cagayan Valley), the National Anti-Poverty Commission and the local government unit here. Max Prudencio, BFAR-Region 2 information officer, said the CFLC is a two-story building also designed as a hub for sharing knowledge and information, and for facilitating organizational development among fisherfolk, including women. It will also function as a fish catch monitoring system for scientific studies.
