Commercial fishing companies seek access to municipal waters
Excerpt
Commercial fishing firms in Misamis Oriental are set to sign a collective petition addressed to Congress calling for another amendment of the country’s Fisheries Code. The Commercial Fishing Association of Misamis Oriental (CFAMO) is lobbying in particular against the ban on commercial fishing vessels within 15 kilometers (km.) from the coastline as contained in Republic Act (RA) No. 10654, a law amending the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998. In a phone interview over the weekend, CFAMO President Carlitos A. Baculio said his group is finalizing the petition, which it plans to submit to the province’s two representatives, Peter M. Unabia and Juliette T. Uy, this week.
