local.seafdecaqd.extract | The Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) has given the first 36 fiberglass-reinforced plastic fishing boats to six coastal towns here for the marginal beneficiary-fisherfolk’s livelihood. BFAR Region 1 Director Lilibeth Signey said of the 220 fiberglass boats that Rep. Sandra Eriguel requested, the agency has awarded 36 units to the municipalities of Bauang, Caba, Aringay, Agoo, Santo Tomas and Rosario. These include 19 30-footer units, 15 27-footer units and two 17-footer units for 72 beneficiary families; with each unit to be shared by two families. Signey said fiberglass boats are safer than wooden fishing boats because they are designed to survive rough seas. | en |
