The country will no longer need to import fish if the government declares more Fisheries Management Areas (FMA), as doing so will ensure sustained productivity and enough supply for the market, an environment lawyer said. At the sidelines of the 10th Visayan Sea Governors Summit on Friday, Atty. Antonio Oposa Jr. said the country would be able to meet its fish requirement only if concerned agencies, particularly the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), take measures to protect bodies of water from illegal fishing and destructive fishing practices.
