The production of mudcrab has traditionally been undertaken only in bamboo or net-fenced brackishwater ponds. Now, the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center Aquaculture Department (Seafdec-AQD) has been promoting net enclosures un mangroves or tidal zones which provide a bigger alternative to crab culture in ponds. Pen culture of mudcrab is one of the various aquaculture technologies generated by Seafdec through its Technology Verification and Extension Project (TVE) - a project which aims to intensify production, profitability, as well as sustainability.en
