    Excerpt
Pantat, or catfish, now sells at a price at par with bangros (milkfish), the traditional star in Iloilo's aqua-culture. And the Iloilo provincial government is now in a sales pitch for the former noting it can be "inter-cropped" with rice, increasing a farming family's income and, at the same time, the protein and energy intake of its members. Gov. Arthur Defensor two months ago sent four provincial employees and a farmer for a hands-on training at the South East Asian Fisheries Development Centre (SEAFDEC) in Tigbuaun town where they learned not only the basics of freshwater fish culture but as well, the method of breeding and spawning the native catfish in captive conditions.
