The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center Aquaculture Department (Seafdec/AQD) in Tigbauan, Iloilo is set to conduct a training on mud crab seed production on August 7 to September 6, 2001. The Training is in support of the growing popularity of mud crab farming which has become an important source of income among small-scale fish farmers in the country. Citing the notable increase in the national average production of mud crab (alimango in vernacular) from 339 kilogram per hectare per cropping (kg/ha/crop) in 1975 to 1975-1104 kg/ha/crop in 1990 and 1979-3230 kg/ha/crop in 1999, AQD researchers see the encouraging opportunities for its culture.en
