For the aquaculture industry of Panay Island to recover and develop, it must first manage the bacteria or pathogens in marine and freshwater environment that are getting more resistant to antibiotics. Two of the common pathogens known, namely Vibrio spp. and Aeromonas spp., have become resistant to antibiotics especially those widely used by manufacturing companies as ingredients in feeds for fish, shrimp and prawn among others. This was shown in a survey of isolated bacteria collected from fish, shrimp tissues, and rearing waters in farms and hatcheries in Panay Island.en
