Officials of five southern Iloilo towns have joined in the Herculean effort to rehabilitate the southern coastal waters of the province. In an unprecedented move, the mayors of the towns of Oton, Tigbauan, Guimbal, Miagao, and San Joaquin signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to formulate a coastal resource management plan establish a resource management council to implement such a plan. The University of the Philippines in the Visayas (UPV), whose main campus in Miagao, has brought together Mayors Carins Flores of Oton, Myrna Torres of Tigbauan, Oscar Garin Jr. of Guimbal, Gerardo Flores of Miagao, and Daisy Sibya of San Joaquin to sign the MOU.
