The Iloilo province has embarked on reforestation of riverbanks to prevent siltation and erosion. The initiative is part of the Rainwater Harvesting and Watershed Board Strengthening Project which focuses on stabilizing stream banks to protect them from flooding and scouring. Provincial Environment and Natural Resources office records showed the project has so far covered 193,330 lineal meters of banks of the following: Alacaygan River in Banate, Agutuyan river in San Enrique, Ulian River in Lambunao, Barotac Viejo River, Assue River in Lemery, Sibajao River in Balasan, Siwaragan River in San Joaquin, Gargao River in Tubungan and Sibalom River in Leon.
