BFAR bats for aquaculture to sustain fishery sector
Excerpt
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) is pushing for aquaculture to maintain the sustainability of the fishery sector. BFAR director Asis G. Perez said that from 11 percent, they are now putting 60 percent of their budget in aquaculture production. “Aquaculture has about P700-million allocation in our 2016 budget versus the P300 million set aside for coastal and marine resources. We agreed that there has to be more focus on aquaculture," Perez said during the National Summit on Participatory Governance Towards Sustainable Fisheries at the Philippine International Convention Center on August 28.
