    Excerpt
Filipino fishers should continue fishing in contested waters despite a ban announced by China, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said. The summer fishing ban, which started on May 1, covers the Bohai Sea, Yellow Sea, East China Sea and the South China Sea (West Philippine Sea), where Beijing has territorial disputes with the Philippines and other countries. The prohibition, Lorenzana said, might have been ordered by Beijing to allow fish stocks and other maritime resources to recover “because they have been fishing heavily in those areas.”
