The local seaweed industry stands to benefit from the publication of the proceedings of the National Seaweed Planning Workshop held last August 2-3 in Tigbauan, Iloilo. Held at the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center Aquaculture Department (SEAFDEC AQD), the workshop was organized by Philippine government-hosted SEAFDEC AQD headed by Dr. Rolando R. Platon and the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) headed by Director Malcolm Sarmiento Jr. The meeting aimed to formulate a Code of Practice for the seaweed industry to minimize malpractices and to sustain its position in the international market.
