The National Planning Workshop for Aquaculture Biotechnology was held April 12 at the headquarters of the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center - Aquaculture Department (SEAFDEC AQD) in this town. The one-day workshop was held to map out a comprehensive research and development program for advanced aquaculture technologies. It also aimed at exploring areas for collaboration between institutions involved in aquaculture biotechnology. Among those who discussed various topics at the workshop included Dr. Marco Montaño of the University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute (UP-MSI), Dr. Augusto Serrano, Jr., Director of the University of the Philippines in the Visayas-National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (UPV-NiMBB), Mr. Juan Albaladejo of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and Dr. Clarissa Marte, Head of SEAFDEC AQD Research Division.
