The National Institute of Biotechnology and Molecular Biology (NIBMB) of UP Visayas conducted a "National Symposium on Fisheries and Aquatic Biotechnology" in collaboration with the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC). The symposium was timely because the Department of Agriculture has begun the process of formulating an integrated, 10-year biotechnology research, development and extension program.
