    Excerpt
Dagupan City - The experimental culture of vannamei shrimps (Penaeus vannamei) in the country hit a snag when the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources decided to destroy its stock breeders which were found afflicted with diseases. Representatives from BFAR, and the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center and the Fisheries and Aquacultural Board destroyed some 900 surviving breeders of vannamei (white shrimps) at the BFAR research center here. The shrimps were brought from Hawaii by the Agrifisheries World Inc. (AWI) in December last year. Seafdec recommended the plan after tests showed that the vannamei breeders were positive of the infectious hypodermal and haemaropoietic necrosis virus (IHHNV) and hepatoprancreatic parvo virus (HPV).
