A scientific expedition to the Agusan marsh in Northeastern Mindanao is scheduled late this year to highlight the need to preserve the area's biodiversity, a scientist said. Dr. Jurgenne Primavera, a senior scientist of the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center's Aquaculture Department, said the 19,000-hectare marsh is one of only three remaining major freshwater wetland systems in the country. The other two are Candaba in Pampanga and Liguasan in Central Mindanao. Ms. Primavera, a recipient of a Pew Fellowship in Marine Conservation, along with some balikbayans, came to Agusan Marsh in May this year and noted that the best time for a scientific visit to the area would be November, a dry season; December - January is rainy season.en
