Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Regional Dir. Drusila Esther E. Bayate is encouraging more canneries to locate in Western Visayas because of the region's abundant marine resources. Bayate echoed what BFAR Dir. Asis G. Perez has said recently that the people should now consider value adding their fish catch so that they could earn more. Asis, who was here March 20 to open the Visayan Sea Closure, said Philippines is one of the world's top fishing nations and the Visayan sea is a very rich fishing ground for sardines, mackerel and herrings.
