The vice chair of the House Committee on Agriculture to Address the spread of the "white spot syndrome virus" which has been threatening the country's fishpond industry, infecting crustaceans. "It has been reported that the normal harvest of 1 to 1.5 tons per hectare per fishpond has been down to 200 kilos or less because of the prevalence of the virus, thereby affecting the livelihood of the families dependent upon the fishpond industry," said Zamboanga City Rep. Lilia Machohon-Nuño. The neophyte lawmaker, in House Resolution 783, said the virus was detected in 2010 when it affected fishponds in Cebu, Bulacan and Zamboanga de Sur.
