A week after typhoon Basyang hit in Southern Luzon, local fishermen in the island town of Rapu-Rapu caught a dead 20-ton sperm whale floating over the waters off Carogcog village on Monday. The incident was reported by the village officials immediately before the officials of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) for proper action here. According to the fishermen who sent a text message over Nelson Bulalacao anchorman of Bombo Radio Legazpi to inform BFAR officials the said sea creature was fully grown sperm whale floating at the coast off Carogcog village, which was already dead, and on the state of decomposition. Dennis del Socorro, BFAR regional director immediately dispatch a team of fishery technician to investigate and validate if it was a whale or a whaleshark as earlier reported.en
