Regional cooperation in marine environment protection

The subject is timely as the rehabilitation of the waters of Manila Bay gains Presidential attention — a call we made in this column several months back. In Singapore last week, the focus shifted to the regional level at the International Conference on Regional Cooperation for the Protection of the Marine Environment convened by the Centre for International Law of the Singapore National University. Participants and resource speakers consisted mostly of lawyers and a few marine scientists from the south east Asian region, Australia, India, Germany, Norway, Turkey, US and Canada.
