President Duterte will visit the Philippine Rise on October 15 to 16 to mark the anniversary of the renaming of the intercontinental shelf and lead the send-off rites for an all-Filipino scientific team what would conduct studies in the area. The President on May 16, 2017, through Executive Order 25, renamed then Benham Rise as Philippine Rise. It was awarded by the United Nations to the Philippines in April 2012.
