Visayan Sea fishing ban lifted
Excerpt
Fishing at the Visayan Sea has resumed since March 15 after the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) lifted the four-month ban on sardine, mackerel and herring fishing. BFAR-6 regional director Drucila Esther Bayate said the catching and selling of fishes locally known as bulao, hasa-hasa, lupoy, and balantiyong are allowed again. Bayate said the annual fishing ban which began in November 1989 was implemented to curb the declining population of the three different fish species.
