Total fisheries production in the province of Guimaras decelerated by 3.41 percent in 2017 to 8,643.83 metric tons (MT) against 8,949.08 MT in 2016 due to a 13.67 percent output reduction in municipal fisheries. However, aquaculture fisheries expanded by 23.89 percent due to increased production in marine cages, freshwater fishponds, and seaweeds. Marine fisheries production decreased by 14.18 percent (a 918 MT shortfall) in 2017 at 5,550.90 MT because of weather disturbances that brought strong winds and rough seas in the fourth quarter of 2017 resulting in lesser catch due to less fishing trips.en
