Around 150 representatives of six countries gathered at the Iloilo Convention Center in Iloilo City ON July 4-6, 2017, and called for inter-country initiatives for the protection of the Coral Triangle, an underwater marine environment that supports about 130 million people in the planet. This year’s theme is “Sustainable Coastal Fisheries through Local Innovation: Scaling up Effective IUUF Reduction, Catch Documentation, and Traceability in Support of Sustainable Local Fisheries Production”. The country representatives shared their best practices and technologies used in curbing illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUUF). Private corporations, on the other hand, presented technology solutions to advance electronic fish catch and traceability.en
