Plant more mangroves, Negrenses urged
Excerpt
Negrenses were urged to plant more mangroves to protect the environment. In his message during the Earth Hour program recently, Coastal Resource Management Officer Dave Fenlon, a US Peace Corps volunteer, urged Negrenses to plant mangroves because it will protect the community from storms, the soil from eroding and it also takes out carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. He said areas planted with mangroves were not as heavily damaged during typhoon Yolanda as those areas without mangrove. As consumers, he advised Negrenses to buy wisely and refuse plastics.
