Scientific proofs exist that Boracay Island’s ecological balance is in a precarious situation. This was the outcome of a policy forum hosted by the National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) last April 23, 2018 in Pasay City. The main topic of the forum was on the rehabilitation of Boracay Island and management of coastal environment problems/concerns. In a press statement from DOST, NAST PHL’s Biological Sciences Division, Health Sciences Division, and Engineering Sciences and Technology Division organized the forum “to assist in the determination of appropriate rehabilitation roadmap specific to the current conditions and needs of Boracay Island Coastal Environment and help in the efforts towards the sustainable development and resiliency of Boracay Island Ecosystem after these initial steps towards its rehabilitation.”en
