The DENR called for a closed-door meeting to update residents on the rehabilitation efforts done on the island. Boracay was sealed off to tourists in April 2018 to undergo six months of rehabilitation and cleanup. It is scheduled to reopen in October. The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) earlier said that some areas of the island may be re-opened as early as September 2018 provided certain conditions are met. For the island to go on “soft opening,” Interior Assistant Secretary Epimaco Densing pointed to dismantling of establishments that violated the restrictions on easement and half of structures in wetlands.en
