The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) expects the country’s fisheries sector to rebound beginning next year on the back of intensified government support for fisherfolk suffering from a lack of post-harvest facilities. In an interview with The Manila Times, BFAR director Eduardo Gongona said the agency could see local production recovering in the first quarter of 2019 and further expanding upon the lifting of the closed fishing season in March. In the Philippines, the closed fishing season usually begins in November until March, to give way for fish to grow and be ready for harvesting.en
