    Excerpt
The famous island, one of the world’s top destinations for relaxation, has just closed for environmental issues that president Duterte highlighted a while ago. The coliform level in one of its barangays has reached an alarming level – 47,460 mpn (most probable number) per 100 millimeter where the safe level is 1,000 mpn per 100 millimeters. Algal blooms appear on the island, according to a study in 2011 conducted by McKeough Marine Center. They tell us that the water in Boracay’s beaches is polluted. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) issued more than 207 violations to establishments. Out of these establishments, 166 violated the Philippine Clean Water Act, 77 for transgressing the Philippine Clean Air Act, five for breaching both laws and nine for operating without an environmental compliance certificate.
