A three-year Memorandum of Agreement for a joint mangrove reforestation project in three areas here was recently signed between the Iloilo City government represented by City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas and the Pews Fellows Program in Marine Conservation represented by Dr. Jurgenne H. Primavera. The Iloilo Development Master Plan of the city government here is now implementing a 10-year program that seeks to rehabilitate, protect and develop and Iloilo River through sustainable multi-stakeholder participation. The Plan was made in accordance with the 1998-2010 Iloilo City Comprehensive Land Use Plan and has one of its objectives the establishment and rehabilitation of mangroves in denuded areas along the Iloilo River within the jurisdiction of Iloilo City.
