The world-famous Boracay Island would be completely rehabilitated by December next year according to Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, secretary of the Department of Tourism (DOT). Addressing senators during the agency's budget hearing yesterday, Puyat said October 26 will be the "soft opening" of Boracay, with only major roads already built. Only establishments which have complied with the requirements of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of the Interior and Local Government and the DOT would be allowed to open, she added.
