Cagayan town crafts ordinance to protect crablets
Excerpt
In a move to improve the gathering, selling, and transporting of “rissing” or crablets, the local government unit in this coastal town is coming up with an ordinance to protect the aquatic specie that was crafted in consultation with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and the town’s fisher folk. Emma Ballad, BFAR-Region 2 (Cagayan Valley) fisheries resource management section chief, said the draft ordinance protects the species from unrestrained gathering and the catching of very small crablets not yet ready for the market.
