41 river wardens deployed to aid in conserving 'Ludong'
Excerpt
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) deployed 41 newly trained river wardens to help conserve the “ludong” or Lobed river mullet during the closed season for catching the rare fish from October 1 to November 15. Max Prudencio, BFAR Region 2 information officer, said the ludong is catadromous and makes its annual spawning run in the Cagayan River in time with the closed season. Designated as river wardens, the fisherfolk who trained under the revitalized Oplan Sagip Ludong project were given an orientation and lectures on inland resource management, fishery law enforcement policies and protocols, scientific fish examination and the salient provisions of Republic Act (RA) 10654 or the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998.
