The Guimaras provincial government demanded the owner of the sunken ship which triggered another oil spill in the island-province to immediately refloat the vessel. Engr. Raymund Moderes, head of the Guimaras Task Force Sportivo, said that aside from the oil spill, they are concerned that the 28,000 sacks of commercial fertilizer inside the ship will cause algal bloom. Algal bloom is the rapid increase or accumulation in the population of algae (typically microscopic) in a body of water. The sudden growth leads to massive production of toxins and depletion of oxygen which could result to fish kills.en
