Iloilo, Guimaras brace for oil spill
Excerpt
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and local disaster response officials are monitoring the Iloilo-Guimaras Strait for a possible oil spill from a cargo ship that sunk Sunday morning. Lt. Commander Dominador Senador III, PCG-Iloilo chief, said that M/V Sportivo of Seen Sam Shipping, Inc. sank around 6am Sunday while anchored at sea some 1,500 yards east of the entrance to the Iloilo River. Senador said that Sportivo’s skipper Nemesio Igona reported that the strong sea current dragged the ship around 4:30am.
