    Excerpt
Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin yesterday said the Philippines will not recognize a fishing ban reportedly imposed by China in the disputed Spratly Islands in the West Philippine Sea (South China Sea). " We will not follow their rules in our own territory," Gazmin told reporters after the celebration of the 23rd foundation anniversary of the Army's Special Operations Command in Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija. Earlier reports said the measure imposing the fishing ban was passed by China in November last year and became effective last January 1. The reports also said foreign fishermen who wish to venture in the area should first seek Beijing's permission.
