Sen. Sonny Angara yesterday pushed for approval of a bill creating the Philippine Rise Development Authority (PRDA), which will boost research efforts in the potentially resource-rich undersea territory off the coast of Aurora. “We still have a lot to learn about the Philippine Rise so what we need is a one stop shop or a coordinating agency that will help our friends from other countries in exploring the area,” he said. Under Senate Bill 312, the proposed PRDA will promote, coordinate and facilitate the exploration, study, development and conservation of all the natural resources found in Philippine Rise, which in 2012 was declared by the United Nations as part of the country’s extended continental shelf.
