Sen. Cynthia Villar has renewed her call to the public to help protect and maintain the cleanliness of the country's seas and freshwater areas, which are sources of food and other resources. Villar, who chairs the Senate environment committee, on Monday cited, in particular, the tons of plastic waste being dumped in the country's waters that kill not only food sources but also endangered species like the sea turtle or pawikan. “I am sure you have heard about increasing reports and incidents of whale sharks, turtles and other animals that get entangled in or ingest plastic wastes. We have seen photos of turtles hanging on (fish) nets or with plastic straws stuck in their nostrils,” the senator said.
