In Pilar town, harvesting, transporting, selling and eating of all types of shellfish are banned. Mayor Gideon Ike Patricio issued an Executive Order regarding the total ban of shellfish in their area following the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources' (BFAR) Oct. 23 Shellfish Advisory No. 17 that declared the coastal waters and shellfish of Pilar town positive of paralytic shellfish poison. He also recommended to the Sangguniang Bayan to put the town under state of calamity as the livelihood of the residents in their 11 coastal barangays are affected by the occurrence of the red tide toxin.en
