In the Philippines, Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala and his deputy-Director Asis Perez of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources or BFAR-are collaborating with Dr. Jpebert D. Toledo who heads the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (Seafdec) on promoting aquaculture projects throughout the country. The FAO has predicted that Asia would be the hub of aquaculture since 89 percent of all such ventures are located in the region. It estimates that aquaculture this year would account for 50 percent of all food fish produced in the world.
