Researchers at the Southeast Asia Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) based in Tigbauan, Iloilo warned of adverse effects of the drought this year until the middle of 2016 on the country's mud crab production, including that in Capiz, the recognized " Seafood Capital of the Philippines." Dr. Emilia Quinitco, program leader of SEAFDEC's National Mudcrab S&T Program, said they are willing to look into the situation in Capiz even if there is no report yet of changes in the natural habitat of mud crabs. Capiz is enjoying normal seawater temperature preferred by mud crabs and other crustaceans, including seaweeds.en
