Millions of blue swimming crablets were released into the sea in the coastal barangay of Mangorocoro, Ajuy, Iloilo, to increase its population. Iloilo Board Member Jett Roxas of the fifth district and chairman of Committee on Aquatic Resources said the crablets released by the Philippine Association of Crab Processors, Inc. (PACPI) were cultured at the hatchery of the Southeast Asian Fisheries and Development Council (SEAFDEC) in Tigbauan, Iloilo. Iloilo province in the past could harvest as much as 20,000 tons of crabs per year but later on, it declined to 10,000 tons and is believed to continue to decline in the coming years if no regulatory measure are instituted for their protection.en
