    Excerpt
The municipality of Tigbauan was named after the giant grass known as "tigbaw" in the local dialect. The St. John of Sahagun Parish church was constructed using forced using forced labor under Fray Florencio Martin in 1867 with its beautiful baroque facade in the rococo finish. The church's remarkable architecture with its facade and tower survived the ravages of World War II and the great earthquake in 1948.
