PEMSEA cites Guimaras coastal management
Excerpt
Liberty Ferrer, Guimaras public information officer, said the island-province’s ICM program undertaken by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) passed Level 1 of the three-level Certification Audit required in compliance with the ICM Code. Ferrer said Guimaras passed the audit after it implemented several ICM best practices, including the formulation and publication of the Guimaras State of the Coasts (SOC) Baseline Report in 2012; the establishment of the Integrated Information Management System (IIMS); and the implementation of the KOICA Projects I and II; and Yeosu Project III for the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Framework of the Province of Guimaras. The project is focused on the implementation of Marine Protected Area (MPA) management in the Tumalintin Point Fish Sanctuary and Pamanculan Fish Sanctuary in San Lorenzo and Sibunag towns, respectively.
