    Excerpt
The continued operation of a coal mining company in the island has allowed the local government to implement various projects and programs beneficial to the residents, according to Mayor Genevive Lim-Reyes. Aside from Semirara Mining and Power Corp., the largest coal producer in the Philippines, the island village of Semirara also plays host to rare coconut crabs - locally known as tatus - multiple species of mangroves, and the most complete species of clams in Southeast Asia. In fact, the municipality is annually holding the Tatusan Festival, a celebration named after the eponymous crab.
