The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources(BFAR) is eyeing capital from local and foreign investors for the development of the eel industry in the country. Foreign direct investment is being encouraged by the department as the new industry will need support to increase production and export volume, BFAR director Asis Perez said at the first National Eel Forum at the Department of Agriculture (DA). Perez said the country should primarily target Japan, the largest eel market in the world, accounting for 90 percent of eel trade.
